Christel Zodiac by Royal Copenhagen

Christel originally created figurines of the twelve astrological signs of the Zodiac in the 1980's, each expressively capturing the essence of the sign, Christel focused more in sculptural work near the end of her artistic career in Rome. This is where she made these twelve girls as signs of the Zodiac. Royal Copenhagen completed their renderings of the twelve signs in 2002-2003, in close collaboration with Christel's daughter, Stine Marott. Made from bisque, an unglazed porcelain, the figurines appear matt, pure and velvety, adding to Christel's unique and sensual universe an exceptionally modest quality.

Christel was a Sagittarian herself - the rebellious sign. The bow, aimed up high, clearly symbolizes Christel's eternal search for the unpredictable and her constant zeal for new and exciting challenges.
